Hello all!
This week marked my entrance to Arizona. I am in the
city of Maricopa, and me and my companion cover 4 wards; which is
actually a pretty small area. It's a lot of residential area, not much
open desert, at least not in our area. Right outside the developments,
though, the desert is blank for miles.
The work has been going really well, even in this first week. We
have had lessons with several people who have expressed interest in being
baptized. Danielle is a single mother who has been coming to church and
feels like she is ready to be baptized. She has committed to keeping
the word of wisdom and I think she understands the importance of it as
well. She has two little girls that make the lessons....interesting...to
say the least. We are also teaching an older lady who grew up Jewish,
but her mother was Catholic. she has had trouble figuring out that Jesus
is our Savior, but she had a pretty powerful experience with the Spirit
this weekend that I think will change her mind on that. John and Leslie
are a deaf couple living in the area, and they have expressed a lot of
interest in being baptized. Teaching them is kind of difficult because
we have to have a member interpret for them and us but it has been fun.
Ashley and Will are very receptive and want to go to the temple. They
don't have a whole lot of questions, they just soak up everything, so I'm
excited to see their progression.
I hope everything is going well at home.
Love,
Elder Hiatt
